Full Sail University was founded in 1979 and offers classes at its campus in Orlando, FL, as well as online. Over 7,000 students are enrolled in 23 degree programs at the school, which offers Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
Students who enroll in the Computer Animation program at Full Sail get the educational background they need to work in the 3D animation industry. Graduates from the program have gone on to work in the film and television industry, as well as for computer and video game companies.
Autodesk Maya is the software program used by major companies in the animation industry, and students at Full Sail learn how to work with it as part of their program.
Modeling and rigging, as well as composition and texturing are covered as the student works through the courses required to complete the requirements for a degree.
Students enrolled in the Computer Animation major start by taking courses in drawing and sculpting. This background in traditional forms of artistic expression gives them the knowledge they need to move onto computer art.
They learn how to create computer-generated models and characters, as well as how to create special effects.
Once the student has completed courses on these topics, the course work changes to allow them to start working on using the principles they have learned to create their own animation projects. They use the same types of hardware and software that they will be using once they start working at a professional animation studio, which means that graduates are well prepared to take on an entry-level position when they finish the course. Students will also have a demo reel to show a prospective employer what they can do.
After graduation, an Animation major is qualified for a number of career opportunities, including:
